Times have been tough for the Morning Crows. Facing years of drought and dwindling resources, they have also struggled to maintain an uneasy peace with the troublesome High Rocks Clan and the powerful Ash Owl Clan.
Hototo, their wily and charismatic shaman, has led them well thus far, but he does not do it alone. He particularly relies upon two brothers, Makya and Choovio, to assist him. More than just talented warriors, Hototo has helped raise them, and he loves them like sons.
With the return of long overdue rain to the region, all three Anasazi clans expect a good harvest, a promise that may ease tensions. But when a vampire, wandering in exile from another land, begins hunting the Morning Crows, Makya disobeys Hototo by choosing to confront this “enemy stranger” alone. Although the young warrior escapes with his life, he is bitten in the process.
As dangerous misunderstandings multiply and old grievances surface, the curse of the enemy stranger begins to spread. The three clans quickly find themselves sinking into a spiraling cycle of vengeance, confronted by the unprecedented threat of complete annihilation. Can the clans lay aside their differences to recognize a common foe in time?
